I’ve been advertising other blogs on Jasmin Charlotte now for a good 6 months and I’ve been very much enjoying it! Before I started my blog advertising, I had advertised on a couple of blogs. I then decided it was time for a research mission so I decided to try and advertise on a whole bunch of blogs to see what worked best for me. This is a culmination of all that advertising so if you are thinking of advertising on other blogs, then here is your guide for what to look for in blog advertising.
1 Look for advertising which includes more than just a blog button
Most advertising packages on blogs will include a few aspects but the standard is the blog button. See the buttons in the ‘Lovely Sidebar’ section, these are blog buttons which link directly to other blogs. The idea being that when someone visits their blog, they will click on the button and visit your blog! However, in practice I’ve found the blog button itself doesn’t give a huge amount of referrals (click throughs to the blog). So when I’m looking into blog advertising packages, I make sure that along with the button in includes a feature post (like this one!). These posts will result in a whole lot more clicks than just a button.
2 Get those social shares
Going along with the top, social shares are essential for getting the most out of your blog advertising. I always look for at least 3-4 social shout outs, mainly through twitter as that is a channel I use a lot. I do notice that this social interaction does grow both my social accounts and my blog. It’s a bit harder to do an instagram shout out, but definitely worth it if you’re interested in growing that channel.
3 Uh Passionfruit?
Passionfruit is a platform which sorts your blog advertising for you – essentially it handles the financial side, along with the button placement and rotation for a small monthly fee. Some bloggers choose to use Passionfruit whereas some will do it all themselves to save on the fees. Which is better? Well to be honest I haven’t noticed much difference between the two. The only problem I have with Passionfruit is that it feels like you have less interaction with the blogger who is hosting the advertising, as everything is done through a third party.
4 Remember – it doesn’t really depend on the blog size
At first I thought that surely some of the bigger blogs would result in more engagement? But actually I have found that really isn’t the case! Some of the big blogs are worth the higher price tag but a lot aren’t. I find bloggers who have a big social engagement and active community to be the best to advertise with rather than focusing on the number of subscribers.
5 Get your blog button sorted
This one is something I’m working on! But if you are interested in advertising on blog then make sure you have a specific blog button, ideally one that shows your logo along with a tag line which explains what your blog is about – this will make it easier for people to choose to click through!
So is it worth it?
I think so! Not only does it grow your readership, but I also like getting to know the blogger who I’m advertising with. I think it’s good to try a few different blogs, then coming back to the ones which work for you!
