Welcome to my blog!
Hopefully this will start to look a bit better in the weeks to come as I get it set up. I’ve wanted to start a blog for awhile just chronicling all the things I’ve been trying in my never ending quest to find awesome, budget friendly things to see, use and do!
Now I have a serious beauty box addiction. If you don’t know what they are then they are usually boxes which include smaller samples of different products to give you a ‘try before you buy’ experience. It’s essentially giving yourself a present as usually it’s not things you’ve picked out yourself – the thrill of a parcel containing some surprises and hopefully some quality products you wouldn’t have tried unless someone literally puts them on your doorstep.
This brings me onto one of this months beauty boxes:
Latest in Beauty: Glamour Edition
This box cost £14.95 which included p+p and you get to view the products before you buy.
This is a box of 3 hair rings. They seem to be made out of the material old school phone wires were made out of. They claim to make your hair ‘kink free’. I’m not convinced by them. If to get kink free hair I have to put a bright pink wire bobble in my hair then I think I will deal with the kinks. Not to mention they are very obvious and I’m not sure how you would hide them. I think I will stick to normal brown hair ties. (RRP £3.75 for 3)
Percy & Reed Abundantly Bouncy Volumising Mousse
To be honest, I’ve never used mousse – I still associate it with a decades old bottle which was under my mothers sink when growing up – confined to the 80s. Combined with having thin and straight hair, probably not the best mix. I have tried to put this through my hair – it didn’t make it sticky or hard but it also didn’t do much. More instruction on my part is probably needed. (RRP £12 for 200ml).
Burt’s Bees Lip Balm
I have been looking forward to using this – it didn’t totally live up to my expectations. It doesn’t smell like honey which is what I had hoped for so if you are expecting bees flocking to you then you will be disappointed. It has a slightly minty/eucalyptus smell but it does moisturise and my lips did feel quite nice afterwards. I will use the balm but I probably wouldn’t buy it specially over any others especially when it is more pricey. (RRP £3.70)
Rituals Zensation Organic Rice Milk & Cherry Blossom Foaming Shower Gel Sensation
Wow this has quite the name! I actually really enjoyed this. Slightly entertaining white foaming shower gel – a little goes a long way (as I discovered by a bath tub filling with foam), it smells nice and feels good on the skin. It was slightly drying so I used a moisturising milk afterwards but I did enjoy it. (RRP £4.00)
Cheeky Chat Me Up Nail Paint in ‘Tongue ‘N’ Cheek’
I have a lot of nail polish similar to this – seems to be a beauty box downfall that they think everyone will like a nice generic shade, but then you end up with 5 generic red nail paints. I will probably gift this to someone but it does have a nice wide brush for application. (RRP £7.00)
Daniel Sadler Long Lasting Waterproof Eyeliner in Aqua Velvet
I really like this – it’s a lovely blue colour and I had been wanting a blue eyeliner. It goes on well and results in a nice line. I’ve only had this on for a night out so I have tested the long lasting aspect but I did test this on my hand and it had rubbed off by the end of the day.. (RRP £9.25)
L’Oreal Paris Mega Volume Miss Manga Mascara
I love this! I really wanted to try it for awhile but had heard mixed reviews. I find this does increase the volume and makes my lashes very thick at the base – it’s not as lengthening as some others (such as They’re Real) but it’s a lovely every day mascara. It stayed on all day and was a good black. I will probably keep using this as my everyday work mascara. (RRP £7.99)
I was really impressed by this box – not too many duds and the others made up for it plus some great value for money – I would recommend picking it up whilst you still can and I will be keeping up with Latest in Beauty to see what their other special boxes are like!
