Barry M Gelly Hi Shine Nail Paint Review

July 1, 2014

I’m not the biggest nails kinda girl. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy having pretty colours on my hands and feet but when it comes to having the patience of painting my nails is where I fail. Within about 2 minutes of applying I already want to do something else! I also don’t tend to buy many nail polishes, I get given them pretty regularly for birthday gifts and tend to hold on to them for ages.

However, I have recently had a spell of blogging envy in that I have seen these Barry M high shines mentioned so many times! Eventually I just had to cave. I was looking for a new eyeliner and as it was 3 for 2, I thought I would pick up a couple of shades. I decided to go for some summery colours – bluebell and sugar apple.

I really love the colours of both of these shades, they are thick and bright and match the shades in the bottles. I’m not the biggest fan of the Barry M applicator brush though, I was painting my toes at the same time with a bright red Essie shade and I much prefer the big brush. The small brush I find makes it a bit harder to apply and doesn’t pick up as much polish as I would like. I also found that the first coat for both was quite streaky and not opaque which disappointed me a little.

However, moving past the brush and the first coat, once I had managed to slap two coats on my nails the colour built up and true to the name was very shiny. I was also really impressed with how quickly this dried – I hate polishes that stay tacky for ages but I haven’t had the same problems with these. The best bit about these polishes and why I think I will pick up some more colours is the longevity of the polish. I have worn these on my nails for up to a week with very minimal chipping. I even wore them without a top or bottom coat and they last a good 4 days. This is such a perk for me as I am usually really lazy with taking my nail polish off so the longer it will look good is the better!

Have you tried these nail polishes? Any colours you recommend?
