JC Explores: Day Out in London – Afternoon Tea + Winter Wonderland!

December 13, 2014

Christmas tree

I finally got around to doing another photo diary and I actually had a busy and almost exciting day. Last weekend, given it was so cold but it was also looking beautiful outside so we decided to have the day out in London. We were meeting my sister for a Christmas Chocoholics afternoon tea in the Hilton by Green Park so we thought it would be a great opportunity to have a wander around London and pop into Winter Wonderland.

First, I did have the morning to lounge about a bit, so I first decided to paint my nails something a bit more festive. I really wanted to do a green feature nail but then discovered I don’t have any green nail polish which was a surprise so I settled on gold which I really like – Christmas themed but not overwhelming.

I then had a play around with some make up, I am loving gold on my eyes – using the Sephora Gold Eyeliner which I am quite obsessed with, and I finally got a good shot which shows what the Bourjois One Seconde Mascara looks like which I reviewed here.

We then headed out and got the train and tube to Green Park. We bought this afternoon tea ages ago off Group On as it sounded delicious and it has come around so quickly. I am spending Christmas in Manchester with my grandparents but my sister and my parents are going to the Great Barrier Reef (typical!) so this was our last chance to go out and do something nice before she jets off.

It was a lovely hotel, with a giant Christmas tree in it, we were led off and sat by the window where we could look out onto the park. I actually finally remembered to bring my camera so managed to get some pictures of our food. We of course had sandwiches to start – these were open faced and delicious. The classics are never disappointing and I do have quite the smoked salmon addiction.

I scoffed quite a few as Paul doesn’t like sandwiches so I may have stolen one or two! We then moved onto scones which are my favourite things about afternoon tea, some were chocolatey and we had nutella with them, oh so good.

This was meant to be chocolate themed, but I think that just meant that they sat on a chocolate plate, but the desserts were still really good. I also finally managed to eat my first gingerbread of the season and with the raspberry white chocolate muffin, they were my favourites.

Overall, it was a fab afternoon tea and a very enjoyable Christmasy treat. Afterwards, Paul and I headed out for a wander in Hyde Park. We thought we would pop into Winter Wonderland, but apparently the rest of London and the UK thought the same and it was PACKED. I am going again next week, I am hoping it will be a bit quieter during the week as it was full of prams and essentially impossible to walk anywhere. But the weather was lovely and I got some very nice pictures so not all bad.

We went home after that, but had a quick pop to the shops as I really wanted to get Paul a Christmas jumper and he didn’t like the one I got so we exchanged it for this one from River Island. I think it is hilarious, a grumpy polar bear, and now it matches my happy polar bear jumper.

The rest of the day involved snuggling on the couch blogging and watching TV, an ideal evening. I have also been burning a yankee icicles candle which I am now obsessed with – an ideal Christmas scent.

Have you been to winter wonderland or another Christmas market this year?
