JC Chats: Wonderful Wednesday #09

I’m attempting to write this bright and early in the morning – before work even. My blog is having a hard time though and is continually logging me out, but it’s time to focus on the positives so it won’t get me down! The main joy of jetlag is that is slightly resets my body clock for awhile where I’m continually going to bed at 9 and waking up at about 5am. Eventually the joy of work will push it the other way but in the mean time, I’m quite enjoying my quiet and slow early mornings. It feels quite nice to know that by the time I go to work I’ve often done a work out, cooked breakfast, showered, blogged and done some reading. One day I’ll make it my proper morning routine! Now onto some happy bits from the past couple of weeks.

Byron Bay

It’s hard to believe that only a week ago I was spending my days wandering along the white sand beaches and lounging in a giant bed by the poolside. I wasn’t sure what to expect from Byron Bay – I had heard both good and bad things about it, a lot of people saying it was really busy these days. Obviously living in London has totally skewed my sense of what ‘busy’ is, so to me it seemed pretty quiet and idyllic!

Honestly, I reeeeeeally loved it, it had an really chilled vibe, was hot but had the nice coastal breeze and the beaches were just stunning. Every beach we came across was just pure white sand with clean water dotted with surfers. It did help that we stayed at an amazing hotel too – we had our own little villa and the photo of the beach up there was literally a 2 minute walk from our front door. Coming Home

Even though I could have easily spent another few weeks wandering around those beaches, and I do love Australia, I was also quite excited to come home. Despite the freezing weather and the very dark mornings (I am now desperate for a lumi light!) it’s nice to be back in our flat and back to a bit of a routine. I think all the head space really got me into a more positive place for the year and I’m looking forward to what 2017 brings.


As we all know, I’m a useless flyer. I thought as I had been nailing the short haul flights, long haul wouldn’t be as much of a problem. But of course, that was not the case! When you pile exhaustion on top of anxiety it doesn’t make for a fun time. On the flight out we had a 777 but on the flight back we went with Singapore Air and had one of the A380 Dreamliners. I have to say, I do quite like them as a plane – they are so huge that the turbulence never seems as bad, but also manages to be really quiet. I flew on one for my last trip home and I’m definitely keen to use them again for long haul flights in future.

Slimming World

As I mentioned in my 2017 goals post, I’m trying to get back into the healthy zone and so far, so good! I’ve been really enjoying slimming world as it’s made me so much more intentional about what I eat. I feel like I’ve increased my fruit and vege intake by about 500% already which is exactly what I wanted. Plus, I only did one shop and it lasted me like 4 days. That has to be quite the achievement! I’m sure it will get harder, especially when life gets a bit more social but I’m ready to tackle it!

All of the reading

I read SO much over the holiday and I really enjoyed it. There’s just something nice about getting lost in a book and really switching off. I didn’t go on a computer at all for the whole trip (other than the phone obvs). I’ve been trying to fit reading into a my schedule a bit more – instead of coming home to Netflix, coming home to a good book is the plan. I think it would do me well to get offline just that bit more.
